It may be of interest to members that the decision has been taken to charge at five of Dartmoor’s most popular car parks from April 2018.
The charges have been introduced following a recent consulation and the failure of the honesty scheme which currently operates.
38 per cent who responded to the consutation strongly agreed that they should pay for parking and those that supported it said it was a pragmatic and appropriate way to increase income for the Authority, especially if it was used to invest in and maintain the car parks and to support the work of looking after Dartmoor. It is proposed that the charges would mirror those at Princetown, where drivers pay £1 for up to three hours and £2 for longer, with coaches paying a flat rate of £4. The charges would apply from 10am to 6pm every day.
The car parks affected will be the lower and upper car parks at Haytor, plus the busy car parks at Postbridge, Meldon and Newbridge.
For those leading walks from these car parks in future, please be aware of the need for payment and ensure car share wherever possible.
Many thanks – Committee
