Saturday 9th December – Seafront to Cockington Circular

The walk today was due to be led by John M but a phone call late on Friday afternoon meant that John would be unlikely to be able to do his walk so Rod and Maggie W took the reins and led the walk.

In all 17 people attended on a rather nice sunny day for the most part the level from the Princess Theatre to Cockington and returning via Chelston. Our route took us along Torquay sea front, past the Livermead House Hotel before turning right along Cockington Lane and the water meadows. Leaving the water meadows at the little bridge we went through the arch and traversed the newly restored lakes.
I have to say that I expected the water in the lakes to be perfectly clear but in fact it was somewhat chalky although the wild life thereon did not seem to mind this. At the newly rebuilt Gamekeepers cottage we mingled with some Charity Runners but we walked in single file for the short distance up to Warren Barn, so as not to disrupt them. Here we had a stop for drinks before climbing the hill up to the road and entered the path which took us to the point where it splits, descended down hill there and into Cockington for lunch at Cockington Court.
After lunch we walked back to Torre Abbey Meadows via Chelston and thence back to the sea front. Not a very long walk – in the region of 5 miles –  but nevertheless a lovely one.
