Saturday 16th December – Paul’s Brixham to Torquay Walk

The day was bright and sunny although a little on the cool side as we gathered at Brixham bus station for the start. The walk was led by Paul S with David M as our back marker and at the start we had 19 walkers to undertake the journey to Torquay.

This is the sort of walk that can be joined and left at various places so in all 25 people took part – some joining us at Broadsands and others at Goodrington.
Our route took us from the bus station down to the harbour and along the path past the fishery and out to the outer harbour. Here we paused for a while as a passer-by pointed out to us that there were a number of dolphins swimming around quite near to the path on which we stood. We then climbed the steps up past the Battery and the museum and into the woods. Paul’s walk was to go along America Road and through Churston village and across the golf course to Broadsands beach where we stopped for a comfort break and drinks. Next we followed the path up to and under the viaduct before turning right up the steps and over Sugarloaf where we paused for a while before setting off up the slope and through the gardens to Fairy Cove. This is where we had lunch perched on a rocky outcrop on the beach.
After lunch we passed Paignton harbour, Vue Cinema and on to Preston. Here we travelled along the main road to Torquay where the walk finished.
It had been a beautiful day and just right for walking, what better way to spend a Saturday.
