Despite the awful weather forecast 22 people turned up for the walk from Daddyhole Plain to Cockington and return via Chelston and Torre Abbey. As Roger was unable to lead the walk Rod and Maggie W picked up the reigns and proceeded along the route which took us via the coast path towards Torquay. We then walked around the harbour, crossing over the lift bridge, and along the sea front to Abbey Sands. As the tide was out we walked along the sand and climbed the steps up to Corbyn Head where we had a drinks break. At this point the sun put his hat on and came out and stayed with us for the rest of the walk. After our short stop we continued along the main road to the crossing and turned right into Cockington Lane. Most of us walked up through the water meadows and crossed the bridge before turning left under the arch and up to the lakes. We took the long route around the lakes and then walked under the road bridge and up to Cockington Court where we took a lunch break. Afterwards we returned to the centre of the village and followed the road up the hill and walked down through Chelston and thence into Tor Abbey Gardens before regaining the sea front and travelling through Rock Walk, around the harbour, over the lift bridge again and back to Daddyhole via the road. It turned out to be a really great day for walking and in brilliant sunshine for most of the day. What better way is there to spend a Saturday?
