Saturday 10th March – Anne-Marie’s Brixham Circular

The forecast for Saturday was for rain and drizzle with perhaps some sunshine later on. As it turned out this was correct but the sun did come out just before our lunch stop and remained so until we all got home.
The walk was led by Anne Marie C with her husband Kevin acting as back marker and was just short of 7½ miles. We started at Brixham bus station and walked down to the harbour and along the wall before climbing up through the weeds and onto America Lane. The mud here was plentiful but I am pleased to say that we did not manage to lose anyone to its murky depths. We then proceeded through Churston and turned left along the Brixham Road before crossing over and entering Lupton House grounds. Here we stopped for a drinks break and comfort stop. With the weather clearing we climbed up through the permissive path and ascended the field to the Kingswear Road which we crossed. We then followed the path on the left until we reached Maypool at which point the sun began to shine. We had our lunch break sitting on the log looking down the River Dart towards Kingswear and Dartmouth. What a fantastic spot to have lunch and with the sun shining as well what more could anyone ask for. After lunch we continued on the path and across the field before turning right to descend through the weeds.
Halfway down we took the kick back path to the left and dropped down to the Greenway Road and branching off to the left through the farm and down the hill to Galmpton Creek. Following the road up the hill where the walk was due to finish.
It turned out to be a really nice walk with improving weather and the 23 people who joined it had a thoroughly good day.
