We all met at Sarah’s house, 25 of us in all,for her circular walk to Cockington. It was a beautiful day with warm sunshine and blue skies – the sort of day that made you feel glad to be alive and living in this lovely part of the UK.
We set off towards the seafront before turning right at the traffic lights into Old Mill Road. A short walk later we entered Pretty Park and Sherwell Valley Road before taking a path up to our left which took us to Nut Bush Lane. We crossed the road and taking a path off to our right we crossed a field and at the far end we paused for a much needed drinks break. We then continued along the path, crossed another field before descending to a path at the far end of the village. At this point we turned left and then right up a steep hill heading loosely towards Occombe farm before turning left again and dropping down though the apple orchard and reached Cockington Court where we participated in a lunch break.
After lunch we walked down past the lakes admirng the beautiful colours of the shrubs, and into the water meadows, heading to the sea front. Before dropping down to the beach we stopped to watch the power boats racing around The Bay and making a great deal of noise as they skimmed across the calm sea. Emerging from the beach we walked through Abbey Gardens and climbed up Falkland Road, turned left and on to Bridge Road and back to Sarah’s house for drinks and cakes. Sarah put on a really good spread with several mouth watering goodies (plus one from Wanda) and we all tucked in heartily. We all sang Happy Birthday to Sarah (even though her birthday wasn’t until next Sunday) and thanked her for her hospitality and for leading us on a very pleasant 7 mile walk.
