Wanda’s Wander from Cockington – Saturday June 23rd

The day was forecast a very hot and sunny one and as a result all agreed a change to the scheduled walk.
24 people met at Preston School for a stroll of about 6 miles. Dropping down the hill we climbed the stile and took the path which runs to Occombe. Part way along this path we turned sharp right up the hill before descending to Warren Barn.
We eventually took the path which skirts the upper reaches of Cockington, affording fine views across the fields. After two right turns, we descended into the village near Cockington Court.
We took our break in the rose garden, enchanted by the beautiful scent of roses in full bloom. Your scribe took a little detour and was seen standing next to a Big Cat which graced one of the walls . Fortunately it had just been fed so no danger of being eaten alive thank goodness!
After our drinks break did a circuit of the lakes to take the path by the Game Keepers Cottage towards Livermead, where we arrived back at the starting point for our lunch.
Some of the group left at this point, but the rest walked the high path to Hollicombe where we  took the coast path to the Boat House for a very welcome drink (or two).
A very pleasant day when all enjoyed the leisurely walk through picture-postcard Cockington.
