We set off from the Plains at Totnes just after 10.30am. It was overcast today – a surprise given the recent heatwave!
There were eight walkers and Carole supported Adam in leading the walk along the River Dart from Totnes to Asprington and back. The outward walk was along the Cycle Route 28 cycle way and then along the lower path for around two miles, then onward to Sharpham House. where all enjoyed a leisurely Coffee Break at the Cafe before moving on up the drive, towards the play area above Asprington. There is an excellent view of the village church tower from here and it made a good lunch stop. Luckily the weather improved early in the afternoon as the group returned along the Cycle Trail back to Baltic Wharf and Totnes.
Sharpham House is a Grade One Listed Building high above the Banks Of The River Dart. The house and the grounds are situated in a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Estate is a Charity, administered by the Sharpham Trust. Sharpham runs residential courses ad breaks, e.g a Five Day Retreat (including Yoga and Mindful Movement along with creative writing). The estate itself produces around 70 tonnes of Cheese each year. There is a ten acre south facing vineyard above the River dart, which produces high quality British Wine too!
Many thanks for those who took part today and also to Carole for her support and her lovely homemade rhubarb crumble cake..!
