Dartmoor Walking Festival – 25th Aug – 2nd September

It’s almost here ! The third Dartmoor Walking Festival starts on 25th August running until 2nd September. The hard copy booklet can be viewed and downloaded at https://moorlandguides.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Festival-2018-program.pdf  It is available at Dartmoor Visitor Centres, some Pubs and Information outlets across Devon.

Torbay Rambling Club are supporting the Festival by leading two walks. Please do join us, we have not scheduled some Club Walks to ensure our leaders are supported and members can attend one or more of the many and varied walks and activities on offer over the Festival period.

The dates of the TBR walks are:-

1.Wednesday 29th August – Sue Harwood and John Mellor are leading    ‘Three Beacons and a Tor’ – A visit to Rippon Tor, Top Tor, Pil Tor and Buckland Beacon. This walk of approximately 6 miles is over rough ground with some tracks and some boggy areas, taking in squares N17, M18, L16, M16, M17, N17.  Meet at Cold East Cross CP (free) SX741743, 10.30 am start.

2. Saturday 1st September –  Karen is leading The Cuckoo Rock Canter – An exploration of ancient and industrial history via a stone row, a famous Rock and a classic Dartmoor Beauty Spot. Visiting 08 – South Hessary Tor, P9- Nuns Cross, Q8 Down Tor Stone Row, Q7 Cuckoo Rock, Q6 Norsworthy Blowing House. This walk over stone paths and open moorland covers a distance of almost 10 miles. Pay and display parking is available in Princetown and there are facilities nearby. Meet by the Visitor Centre in Princetown, SX590734 for a 10.00am start. Voluntary donation again of £5. Booking not required.

 Unfortunately Gail has had to cancel her original walk, scheduled for 31st August but she has offered to do an alternative route, not in the official programme. She welcomes all members and any others who would like to join her.  Details are:-

A Postbridge Perambulation –  10.30am Friday 31st August meet at Postridge CP. (£2) Walk to Bellever, Rydon Ridge, Babeny, Cator Commoon, Pizwell and fields and lanes back to Postbridge. Contact Gail on 01803 872741 – or just turn up!
