Twenty four walkers joined Roger B’s circular walk from Totnes to Ashprington. It was a dry day with the promise of sunshine later as we set off from the steamer quay, to cross the Dart and walk The Plains. We took the cycle path up the hill to where it divides to then traversed the downhill zig zag path to bring us closer to the banks of the river.
Following along the path, admiring the views, we entered the woods where we tramped along in ankle deep leaves, which were dry and crisp. After climbing over a number of stiles we entered a field and climbed up to the cycle track once more. Having passed through the gate we took the left hand track to stay closer to the river and walked to Sharpham House, where we had a short drinks break. Here we gazed down to the river and watched as a number of canoes rowed past. We then climbed the hill and entered Ashprington for a lunch break. Some of us had lunch on the church steps while others walked a little further to have lunch at the pub.
After lunch we rejoined the cycle path taking us back to Totnes. This is one of the loveliest walks in this area and we all enjoyed it very much. The sun did pop his hat on for a couple of short visits but by this time we were on our way back.
