Wenesday 6 February 2019 – Rod & Maggie’s Greenway Circular.

We started at Squires Fish & Chip restaurant opposite Churston library and eight members plus 3 guests turned up for a circular walk to Greenway. The rain had stopped by the time we set off and the day remained dry throughout which turned out to be perfect walking weather. Dropping down the hill we arrived at Broadsands beach and proceeded along the prom before taking the path over the downs towards Elberry Cove.Bearing right we accessed the farm track and followed this up to the golf course entrance and crossed the course to Churston village. Passing through the village we turned right and passed under the old Brixham railway bridge until we reached the main Brixham Road where we made our way to Lupton House for a drinks break. Taking the permissive path we climbed up the hill and crossed the road to Kingswear. Taking the path on our left we passed the mobile phone tree and dropped down the the path with glorious views to our right and upon reaching the road we turned left and walked through the hamlet of Maypool. Passing through the gate at the end of the lane we all rushed to the log for our lunch break. I cannot think of a better place to have lunch on this log gazing straight down the River Dart towards Dartmouth and Kingswear. After lunch we headed across the field and down towards the Greenway Estate. At the road we turned right and then dropped down the farm track towards Galmpton Creek. An easy walk across the beach led us along the path until we reached the road which would take us up the hill to the village. We turned left up Slade Lane to the common and back to our starting point. A most enjoyable walk in ideal walking conditions.”
