Peter’s Torquay to Totnes Trail – Saturday 13th July

This was Peter H’s first led walk and 17  turned up for the Torquay to Totnes Trail.  We followed the usual route, which is now known as the John Musgrave Trail, up through Cockington, past the lakes and Warren Barn and up to Occombe where we had our first drinks break.

Passing under the dual carriageway and taking what was the old ring road  (now a grassy walkway) we turned left across the field to enter Marldon. We climbed up Church hill, eventually taking the footpath over the road and across the fields to Loventor and the road below Berry Pomeroy Castle.

Travelling along the road and through the woods we came to Gatcombe Brook where we had lunch.

Setting off again, we followed quiet country roads before climbing the hill and taking the path on our right, all the way into Totnes.

It was a dry, very warm day with glimpses of the sun en route. Frequent drink breaks were essential, but we still managed to reach Totnes in time to catch the 15.18 bus back to Torquay.

However, a huge crowd of youngsters virtually filled the double decker bus so some of our group could not board.

Otherwise, it all went well for Peter’s first walk as a TBRC leader and we look forward to his Brixham History Walk later in the year. Thank you Peter.
