It was a grey day with a threat of rain for Rod and Maggie’s Christmas circular from Torquay sea front to Occombe. In the event the 30 walkers ( 31 if you count Warren Bear nestled into Angela J’s rucksack) who turned up for the walk had reasonably fine weather.
We followed the usual route through the Water Meadows to the bridge where we turned left under the house and took the path through the lakes. At the game keepers cottage we turned into the woods, climbing as far as Warren Barn and then proceeded up the steeper path to the top of the hill, before dropping down into Scadson Woods.
We then continued uphill to Occombe Farm, where most of us went into the café for refreshments and were met by Jacqui and Ken, distributing printed programmes and TRC badges, the latter donated by an anonymous member, for which we were very grateful.
We also met up with Wanda H who is making good progress. During our stay in the cafe there was one heavy shower, but this had cleared up before we left.
We returned to Torquay sea front by the same route. A very pleasant, if shorter, walk in good company and an early return to enable people to do their last minute Christmas shopping.
May I take this opportunity to wish all members a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2020.
