We all love walking, taking in lung fulls of fresh air and enjoying the beautiful Devon countryside and coast. We enjoy each other’s company and all the chat and laughter that goes on during our walks, which makes them all very special.
However, on Monday our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, issued a directive that as far as possible we should all stay indoors and only venture out to buy essential food stuffs and for a daily exercise with members of our household. No groups of more than 2 people and if we stop to talk to anyone along the way we must keep a 2 metre distance between us. This state of affairs is to be reviewed in 3 weeks time but realistically this will continue for much longer – perhaps for the whole of the summer. Depressing I know, but if we are to beat this awful virus it has to be done.
As I write this your Committee is busy putting together the walks and social programmes for July to December and I am pleased to report that we have almost all the details we need to create your new Programme. I would like to thank all members who have volunteered to lead a walk for the benefit and pleasure of our members and those who are working on social events and gatherings that we all enjoy so much. One thing that I am not so sure about is whether or not we will be allowed to implement this programme or whether it too may have to be suspended until the crisis is over.
Your Committee is working hard on your behalf to keep you all up to date with what is going on in the club and will continue to do so during this difficult and sad time. Unfortunately, we do not have a crystal ball to predict the future, but we will do our very best to keep you all informed- so please be patient.
I feel sure that as a nation we will beat this virus, but it may take some time, we just do not know. In the meantime, please follow the guidelines laid down by our Government and above all keep safe and enjoy whatever you can.
Please feel free to contact me if you want to chat or have any queries regarding the Club and the future plans, telephone number below or email email@example.com.
Take care – and stay safe everyone!
