50 Years of Rambling – Philip and Mary Carter

The history of the club up to 2000 was written by Mary Carter.
Philip Carter, her husband, was the founder of the South West Coast Path Association and the Chairman until 1994. Philip wrote the first definite book about the path, Exploring the South West Coast Path, published in 2009. Philip and Mary were also the driving force behind Torbay Rambling Club for many years. When walking returns the new programme will be ready. On Sunday 27 September, if all is well, the walk planned is from Slapton to Dartmouth. This passes the bench erected in memory of Philip and Mary, between Strete Gate and Strete, which has one of the best views on the path.
