Conservation Day – Wednesday 12th April

Today 6 Club members joined Dartmoor Ranger Bill, to continue our task of clearing the cross drains on the path leading up to Hayne Down, near Manaton.
We were pleased to see that the work performed over the past few years was still in a reasonable condition which made today’s task much easier to achieve.

It is very satisfying to work on a path that is used frequently for our club walks.
It was a fine, sunny day and the banter with Bill was excellent as usual.
We spoke to two young men who were geo-caching and assisted them to find the hidden “container”!

At lunchtime, Mandy gave a spirited rendition of the poem The Owl and the Pussycat. This was much appreciated by all and we look forward to the next performance.
By the way, the next task which is clearing the scrub and hedgerow growth at Slinkers Lane , Manaton is on Weds July 12th. So pop this into your diary and do join us for satisfyingly destructive day. Details in the next programme.
