John’s Kingskerswell Circular – Saturday 23rd March

Twenty six walkers left the Sloop for John’s walk from Kingskerswell to Newton Abbot via Coffinswell, a distance of around 5½ miles.
it was somewhat misty with a bit of moisture in the air, but for the most part it remained dry and the sun did appear briefly.
After climbing the road alongside The Sloop, we took a bridle path to the top of the hill with glorious, although misty, views down over Kingskerswell.
Following the path downhill and walking along the road at the bottom, we entered the village of Coffinswell and had a drinks break outside the Linney pub. We then ascended the hill to take a left turn passing the village well.
Following the road we veered right and after a while we took another bridle path all the way to the Milber Woods, taking the path downhill to the Toby Inn roundabout which we crossed to take the path alongside the A380, with its traffic roaring above us.
At the end of this path we crossed Aller Brook and stopped for a welcome packed lunch.
After lunch we walked along the river bank passed the Town Quay until we reached The Avenue where the walk ended.
We had 3 new potential members on this walk, (2 from the Midlands who have promised to join us when they finally get down here) believing that the walk had been ‘lovely’ and that we were a friendly and welcoming group. Testament indeed to our wonderful club.
