It was the official re-start for the Torbay Rambling Club today as 21 walkers joined Wanda for her Writers Walk in Torquay.
Starting at the Grand Hotel, Wanda related a story of its connection with Agatha Christie before moving on to Torre Abbey. Next was the site of the former Palm Court Hotel and then on to the war memorial before climbing the hill up to the Imperial Hotel. From here we visited the Little Theatre which was formerly a church, and then down to Meadfoot Beach.
At each stop Wanda imparted some history, which brought the walk to life. From Meadfoot we continued along Marine Drive with views across to Lyme Bay and of the cruise ships moored in the bay. Lunch was taken overlooking Thatchers Rock.
The walk continued along Bishops Walk to Kents Cavern and finally descended to the harbour via Babbacombe Road, Lisburne Square and the museum.
The weather was kind to us with some sunshine, ideal for walking.
This was the first time we could officially gather in a larger group for a catch up and a good 6 mile walk, hopefully the first steps towards the new walking normality.
Thank you Wanda for an interesting walk with lots of historical information.
