The day was fine and sunny as 20 walkers met in Totnes for Rod & Maggie’s 6 mile circular along the River Dart to Ashprington.
The walk followed the cycle track behind the old boat yard, taking a small detour around the boat float. The group divided after the first hill – Maggie taking the higher easier path and Rod the lower along the river.
The two groups reconvened later for a break and both continued on the path to Sharpham. The views were wonderful, across Devon’s glorious countryside with the River Dart below, wending its way gently to the sea.
On reaching the road down to the vineyard the group turned right and climbed towards Ashprington, taking advantage of the seats, swings and tables in the village orchard for lunch. No dogs are allowed in this area, so two of our number walked to the church.
After lunch we reconvened once more in the village and returned along the higher path to the boat float in Totnes. A very pleasant walk, benefitting from some of Devon’s finest scenery.
