24 members convened on a fair day for this 8.5 mile walk.
We set off from Dawlish railway station and planned to walk along the sea wall to Dawlish Warren. However, the first part of the sea wall is now closed for phase two of the construction work, intended to protect the station area from the sea in future.
As the tide was not in our favour, we climbed up to the main road until we reached the bridge and could continue along the sea wall. We enjoyed a drink and comfort break here before taking the tunnel over to the foot and cycle path to Cockwood Harbour.
Our original intention was to walk on to Starcross, but this was revised after the recky and we took the left inland towards Cofton instead. At the church we turned left up through the woods and entered a field on the right, overlooking Cofton Holiday Centre. Here we had lunch with fine views across the valley and although it had become cloudy by this time it was a very pleasant spot to eat.
We continued over the field after lunch before reaching the road and turning left to take to the cycle track back to Dawlish Warren, repeating our route back to the station.
A very pleasant and successful walk which everyone enjoyed. What better way to spend a Saturday?
