Peter’s Dartington Circular – Wednesday 19th May

Ten walkers arrived in Totnes for the 1st Walk on the new programme. We were graced with a lovely sunny morning. Most grateful after the recent wet spell.
Setting off we proceeded to the footpath alongside The River Dart towards Dartington. We passed a couple of Ladies who had been for a swim. Looked like Wetsuits were order of the day.
At the wetlands we headed along the road towards Dartington Hall turning right at the gate to head back down to the river. At this point I explained that we would encounter some mud after the recent rains and to take extra care. The mud was worse than expected. But we all survived this part following the trail alongside the Dart.
On reaching the deer park woods we meandered into the woods. At the picnic area we enjoyed our lunch stop. After we headed up to the view the deer, then proceeded on to Dartington Hall for a comfort stop. Taking the main road out, skirting the estate and on to Dartington Cider Press. We all agreed to enjoy a hot beverage from Cafe and a break in the sunshine. After we continued on the track alongside the wetlands.
Then back alongside the Dart, pausing to view the weir. After returning to Totnes 3.45pm, everyone agreed they had enjoyed an excellent walk.
