Don and Betty’s Walk to Ramshorn Down – Wednesday 9th June

12 of us left Ilsington, taking a path through the woods. From there we walked various lanes around the village, all of which were profuse with wild flowers from pink campion to blue speedwell and many in between.
We had our lunch in a hay meadow watching raptors circling ahead.  Shortly after lunch someone spotted an orchid.  We left the flowers and made our way through conifers to reach Ramshorn Down.  On our way the path was blocked by a herd of curious cows.  Fortunately two of the party are retired farmers so we put them in charge at the front.  At the top of Ramshorn Down there is a convenient group of stones so we were able to rest while enjoying the beautiful,  panoramic view.
6.5 miles.
