Anne-Marie’s Totnes – Dartington Walk – Saturday 2nd October

Eight members braved the heavy rain to undertake Anne-Marie C’s walk from Totnes to Torquay.

Owing to the heavy rain and some flooding of the proposed route, the walk was changed by mutual consent to a 6 miler from Totnes to Dartington and return.

We set off along the river bank and cycle track to the Cider Press Centre where we sheltered under the arch for a drinks break. We then climbed up the hill and followed the road up into the Dartington Estate. It was hoped that we could walk through the lovely gardens of the estate but these had been closed owing to the prospect of high winds. We did however visit the Japanese garden which several of our group had not seen before.

We then returned to the road and the riverside path back to Totnes. As the weather had been continuously raining we had not stopped anywhere for lunch so we all adjourned into a cafe for a welcome hot drink and a bite to eat. On the wall of the cafe was the plaque about Bowerman’s Nose an interesting bit of Dartmoor Legend (see photo).

In true Torbay Rambling Club spirit we all enjoyed the walk despite the rain.
