Wanda’s Starcross to Kenton Circular – Saturday 20th November

Wanda led a group of 17 walkers from Starcross, with Howard and Lisa as co-walk leaders.

On route to the Powderham estate we spotted many deer in the Deer Park, which has changed little since the 1700’s. Great views of Exe Estuary and Belvedere Tower were enjoyed as we followed the path to Kenton.

We then crossed the road to start our ‘flat walk’ – not quite so,  as you can’t have views without hills! We climbed up Butts Hill with lots of crunchy leaves to kick through before turning right down a footpath and stopping in a field for lunch. The views are great along this route with trees and fields and the sea in the distance.

After our lunch stop we proceeded along Mowlish Lane before turning left along a farm track. A farmer was about to let a massive herd of 400 cows out of a field for milking but he kindly kept the gate shut until we’d all passed!  Using quiet back lanes we dropped down to end the walk outside Starcross Station. With a long wait for a train some of us headed for a hot chocolate at the car park while others went in ‘The Atmospheric Railway’ pub.

An enjoyable walk of around 8 miles.
